'Public Benefit' (közhasznú) Foundation

International

"The Foundation`s purpose, its commitment and compensation, is in making sick children smile. However, for the program implementation some funds are needed, either for equipment, fees for performers and other minor expenditures. These can be raised either by approaching potential sponsors or organizing some donors’ events. The stakeholders in the “smiling” program are coordinator(s), sponsors, performers, volunteers, hospital personnel and the children’s parents." Nicola Jagic / coordinator of the Smiling Hospital Croatia

Smiling Hospital Foundation has started activities in ten other countries during the past ten years: Slovakia, Croatia, Poland, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Japan, India, Jordan and Ghana.

We also started abroad with one joint venture and two new foundations:

  1. The Smiling Hospital Foundation India in 2009
  2. A joint venture with the Croatian Red Cross in 2011
  3. The Smiling Hospital Japan Foundation in 2012. The foundation in Japan is very active under the leadership of Mrs Ellie Matsumoto; for detailed information, please see their website at: http://www.smilinghpj.org/

Below you will find a short note written by Nikola Jagic, the coordinator of the Smiling Hospital Croatia the Head of International Department of Croatian Red Cross

"The Smiling Hospital Foundation was established in 2004 in Budapest, Hungary. The goal of the Foundation is to provide assistance to hospitalized children. With so many children worldwide suffering from diseases, hunger and living in unfriendly environment, why provide assistance to children in hospitals receiving regular meals, treatment and living in friendly environment?

A sick child anywhere needs assistance. Most often attention is focused on and provided for children who live in poverty and misery where health services are limited or do not exist at all. But are not all sick children, wherever they might be, in need of assistance? One should definitely not forget these children. Besides medical care, they also need to be offered something else to overcome more easily the temporary loss of the most precious human wealth, their health. They need someone who will do something to make them smile and laugh. Only a few minutes of happiness can help make the child better and turn their environment into a Smiling Hospital. Can you think of anything nicer than passing through hospital and hearing from a nearby room little patients’ laugh? This is the mission of  the Smiling Hospital Foundation.

The Foundation`s purpose, its commitment and compensation is in making sick children smile. However, for the program implementation some funds are needed, either for equipment, fees for performers and other minor expenditures. These can be raised either by approaching potential sponsors or organizing some donors’ events. The stakeholders in the “smiling” program are coordinator(s), sponsors, performers, volunteers, hospital personnel and the children’s parents.

The program may be initiated either by establishing a national Smiling Hospital Foundation in respective country or by the adoption of the program by an existing humanitarian organization. In case of the latter, both the identity of the Foundation and the humanitarian organization will be respected."
